Our "4th" Weekend

Our weekend started last Thursday night. We had Wayne's last church softball game of the season :(, and then we were heading out to see my parents. Wayne had a long weekend off of work with it being the 4th, and Sunday was my Dad's first Sunday at his new church in Opp. He wanted all of his yungins there so his new church family could meet all of his family.

This is where our story begins.....

As we were leaving, Wayne asked me a dozen times if I was sure I knew where we were going (I'm HORRIBLE with directions). I assured him over and over I knew exactly how to get there. After all, Dad gave me directions that I had memorized. I know he made me tell him the directions 10 times before we left. After much assurance, we were off for our 2 1/2 hour trip with our little one. We had a grand time discussing dreams and goals for our future. THANKFULLY, Jacob slept the entire way. We lost track of time. After all, who cared, we were having pleasant conversation. Dad calls and asked where we were, and I told him, "In the middle of nowhere. I have no clue." If you've ever been down that way, it's all back roads, and you don't know what town you are near until one pops up. So, Dad tells me to call when we enter the next town so he can have an idea of where we were and how much farther we had to go. FINALLY, I saw a town city limit sign. It was Brewton. So, I called Dad up to let him know. All he can say is ..... "No, not Brewton." We were an hour past Opp. Dad is scrounging trying to figure out what went wrong when his light bulb turned on.....HE FORGOT TO MENTION A TURN!!!!!! OH MAN! I got the giggles. I could not stop laughing. Dad couldn't stop laughing either. The more we laughed, the madder Wayne got, and the madder Wayne got, the more we laughed. There for a while it was a viscous cycle.

So, in the middle of nowhere, a Wal Mart shows up. (Seriously, the middle of nowhere. This one wasn't even open 24/7!) Luckily, so we thought, there was the parking lot sweeper there who gave us directions. This guy, God love him, was so kind, but he was COUNTRY. His directions consisted of...."Go to this Oak tree, take a right. Go to the mini mart, take a right. Keep going to the next stop sign. There you will take a left. If you don't come across the stop sign, go back to the mini mart and ask them for directions." DO WHAT????? Anywho, he ended up drawing us up a map, which was NO better than his verbal directions. When we left, Wayne was madder than when we got there. I continued laughing, along with Dad. In fact, I was laughing so hard I was crying and I couldn't talk. It was truly hilarious to me. So, we come along Brewton's downtown (which is very cute by the way.....I wanted my camera out of the trunk so bad, but it was 1 a.m., and I knew Wayne wasn't up to it!) We followed his "directions for a little while, and then Wayne sees a sign for 65. He takes off that way. I kept asking him if he knew how far it was to 65. His response??? "I just hope it miraculously appears." We finally made it to Mom and Dad's at about 2:45 a.m. We were exhausted! Lesson learned. We need a Garmin. Dad felt so bad about the wrong directions, he volunteered to let us sleep in and he would get up with Jacob! :) Needless to say, we took him up on the offer.

Friday morning came (technically it was already there I guess...), and I grabbed the sewing machine. Mom had promised me to teach me, and I couldn't wait!!! We worked most of the day Friday on Jacob a new outfit. Only taking breaks to head to WalMart, pee, and eat. We almost completed it on Friday, but had to finish it on Saturday. It's a little big on the lil' man (Mom told me to do a smaller size), but it should fit before the summer is up.

Thank you so much Mom, I can't wait to make many more!!! (More pics of this one to come soon. It needs snaps.)

We ate so much this weekend, I still feel full! Here is our little man eating one of his favorite things....a biter biscuit.

We also decided to take Jacob's pool (that we have never used) so he could get some good use out of it! He loved it!

Maybe even more than playing in his pool, he enjoyed playing in the grass and watching Dada cut Pappy's grass.

The most important thing that happened on our "4th" weekend?? JACOB WALKED!!!! It happened for the first time on July 4th in the afternoon. I do not have it on camera or video yet. He only takes a couple of steps at a time, and you never know when it's going to happen, but soon and very soon I will have pics of this up! I'm so proud of our pumpkin! He's growing up so fast! I can't believe he'll be TEN months old this week!

Of course, we had to go see fireworks. Unbelievably, Jacob was not too impressed.

By the end of the 4th, he was pooped! :)

Sunday, Dad's church was great! His sermon was great, and the people were amazing! I truly feel like they are where they need to be! Please keep them and their ministry in your prayers.

Last but not least...Jacob learned to climb stairs Sunday after church. OH BOY! Don't worry, Wayne was right beside him, just not in the picture!

Now, my wrists need a break!
